A two-sided station: a make-up counter with a real mirror and hairdryer on one side, a wash basin with shower head on the other, and shelves of bottles, brushes and clips in between. It is the most elaborate role-play set we stock, and it shows in how long children stay at it.

What it builds

Sustained, self-directed pretend play with a lot of small precise handwork — clipping, brushing, arranging, unscrewing lids. That is exactly the fine motor practice that handwriting later leans on.

Because it is a service setting, it needs two people to work properly, so it pulls siblings and parents into the play rather than isolating the child.

From 3 years, best between 3 and 7.

Safety and materials

Non-toxic plastic with smooth edges. The mirror is a polished panel, not glass. Contains small parts — not suitable for children under 3. Play make-up is not cosmetic and is not for use on skin. Follow the age warning on the box.

Wipe with a damp cloth and mild soap.
